Litho or Digital : -choose for me

by Rupesh Gohil on October 10, 2011

That’s the leading question that I see on the top of most quote forms that come through to me via our online print quote request  form.

We are well aware of the confusion that can occur when talking about printing your marketing brochures, catalogues, leaflets etc, etc. There are so many choices in paper weights, paper finish and paper colours – there are also different printing processes!
How do you know which one is best for you and your business?

Digital print tends to be used for most shorter runs, i.e under  500 copies if it is just a postcard or leaflet, or the like. Any print work above those quantities tend to lend themselves to the traditional litho print method – which is what we at Printhouse Corporation excel in.

Despite the vast improvements in digital printing methods, Litho printing (also called Offset Lithography) has remained the industry standard printing process due to it’s advantages in quality, efficiency and high volume runs it achieves.

There are initial costs involved in creating the plates and setting up the press. This means a litho job can be expensive and take time, but for large print runs it remains the most efficient process, is more flexible in terms of material, inks and finishes and also boasts superior print quality.

With litho print you can expect:

  • Long Runs
  • Cost Effective
  • High Quality Printing
  • Extremely Accurate Colour Reproduction

Digital printing is most commonly done on big laser printers and, unlike litho, has a very low first print cost thus making it ideal for short-runs. Unlike litho, you do not need to print set-up sheets making it very cost efficient on short-run work. Digital print is instant – jobs can be turned around in a day if required.

With digital print you can expect:

  • Short Runs
  • Cost Effective
  • Flexible Fast Turnarounds
